The Yamut are a Turkoman tribe found in the north-east of Iran and across the border in Turkmenistan close to the Caspian. This example of Yamut work which is quite old has typical weft patterning throughout as well as additional work on the lower panel. This Yamut tent bag (“juval”) was purchased in Ottawa in 1980 from an Afghan dealer.
