Tribal bags represent some of the finest flatweaving in Iran. This large storage bag (juval) comes from the Kurdish tribal areas in North-East Iran. It is quite old and beautifully made and has an intact back of plain woven gelim. In all likelihood, this bag was used for storing feed grains or bedding. It was purchased as a pair in Teheran in 1978. The other bag was sold recently.
